3 Research Objectives

The purpose of the research is to assess, by analysing the current use of
standards by Slovenian companies, the advantages that the use of standards
has contributed to their operations. The results of the research should serve
as one of the key sources for preparing the standardization strategy until 2030.

By this research, SIST aims to determine how Slovenian companies pursue
standardization. It aims to contribute to the identification of gaps between
the needs and the actual performance of SIST’s role, and to identify
opportunities to optimize its performance. In this way, SIST would strengthen
its role of the central Slovenian hub for standardization, as well as the role
of support institutions for promoting the growth, productivity and
internationalization of the Slovenian economy, and last but not least,
the security and quality of life in Slovenia in general.

The ultimate objective of the research is to create a database to raise
the awareness of employees about the use of standards. This also includes
a demonstration of good practices. In this way the position of SIST as the
promoter of standards in Slovenian companies would be enabled and
facilitated. It is particularly important here to promote participation in
independent development of standards and expand the awareness and
understanding of the importance of standards to the new, boundary,
and developing areas of expertise. This would also place SIST in the position
of being the hub for Slovenian standardization for those purposes.

The research objectives are to:

. analyse the use of standards in Slovenian companies;
. analyse awareness on the importance of standardization for the Slovenian economy;
. understand the perceived role of SIST as the Slovenian hub for standardization

(the positioning of SIST), and identify the opportunities to consolidate and
strengthen its role.
