AN ANALYSIS INTO THE IMPACT OF STANDARDS ON THE OPERATION OF SLOVENIAN COMPANIES
Several stakeholders are involved in the Slovenian standardization process,
who should actively participate in order to achieve optimal development (see
Figure 2). In the standardization process, SIST acts as a stakeholder
representing national interests; but it also needs active cooperation of the RS
Government and the relevant ministries. The Government approves the budget
intended for standardization and provides for dialogue with other stakeholders.
Among the main stakeholder groups are certification bodies, such as SIQ and
Bureau Veritas. These act as certification granting authorities for companies,
who demonstrate through certification that their goods/services comply with
a certain standard. Certification bodies buy and use standards rather than
issue them. The status of officially recognized certification body is
awarded by the public institute Slovenian Accreditation.
Other important stakeholders include inspection bodies, federations,
chambers and associations, such as Electrotechnical Association of Slovenia,
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Chamber of Craft and Small
Business of Slovenia, Chamber of Engineers of Slovenia, Slovenian Association
for Quality and Excellence, and many others.
Of course, also the economic sector itself, i.e. companies regardless of their
size, need to take an active part in the standardization process. Support to
standardization must also be offered by public institutions, education and
research institutes, as advocated by the EU initiative “Joint Initiative on
Standardization” (European Commission, 2016).
