4 Research Methodology
and Questions
4.1 The research methods
The methodology determines in detail all the procedures used in the research
and sets out the sample on which the analysis was carried out.
The research is presented in four parts, namely:
. secondary source analysis,
. in-depth interviews,
. survey,
. good practices case studies.
The in-depth interviews were conducted by means of the qualitative method
of semi-structured interview. The two objectives of the interviews included
identification of the relevant topics and fields of research, and a quantitative analysis
of the business environment’s attitude in relation to standards and towards SIST.
At the same time, the interviews served as a tool for drawing up a plan for the
quantitative part of the research (the survey).
Altogether ten interviews were carried out with different stakeholders. Four
interviewees represented the opinions of assessors and other organizations,
themselves active in the field of standardization. Five interviewees came from
different companies regularly participating in the standardization process at the
national as well as international level. An additional interviewee came from
a chamber and another from an institution (see Table 3).
