requiring explicit consents. According to the competitiveness reports, the
warnings issued by international organizations, Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Slovenia, bilateral chambers of commerce, economic and business
associations, and media reporting, it can be concluded that a great opportunity
is being offered to Slovenia should it systematically undertake improvements in
this area and, moreover, introduce the appropriate standards.
STANDARDIZATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES, EDUCATION
PROGRAMMES AND PROFESSIONS
Orientational interviews clearly indicate to the lack of standards and to the
topical issue of standardizing education programmes implemented by educational
institutions in Slovenia. The importance of implementing and adapting the
relevant education programmes in professional and higher education is
growing thanks to the growing need for flexibility in the field of labour, lifelong
learning and the flexicurity concept. Through consistent standardization of
procedures and the use of standards, the predictability of the procedures is
enhanced and the employees who are owners and providers of the procedures
are empowered. Consequently, also the competitiveness of learners on the
labour market and their employability is improving, and thereby the attractiveness
of the Slovenian providers’ education programmes in Europe.
HEALTHCARE STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT FOLLOWING THE COVID-19
PANDEMIC
The COVID-19 pandemic has disclosed inhibited and new needs in the field
of standardization, which involve protection of health, health system operation
and innovation processes in provision of medicines, vaccines and equipment,
especially in the critical pandemic circumstances caused by a virus little known
so far. In this respect, standardization can contribute significantly to
prevention of disease and protection of health of the more endangered groups
(e.g. chronic patients or nursing home residents), organization of hospitals and
health centres, supply of sanitary and other medical equipment, and supply of
medicines. Health protection constitutes an additional opportunity for
Slovenian companies and research institutes as well as R&D partnerships.
