AN ANALYSIS INTO THE IMPACT OF STANDARDS ON THE OPERATION OF SLOVENIAN COMPANIES
5.3 Participation of Slovenian companies in the standardization process
The interviewees are mainly sceptical about the possibilities of the Slovenian
economy as regards the creation of own standards. Among the reasons why
Slovenia cannot make an international breakthrough by its own standards,
most often appears the fact that a single strong company is not enough to
create a standard. Several companies should liaise in such a project,
and Slovenian industry is too small to have several strong companies within
one type of industry. The participating respondents shared the opinion
that only the rich countries can afford the design of own standards.

The results of processing the questionnaire show that Slovenian companies
are for the main part passive in standardization, as only 19 percent of the
respondents said that their company follows the information on creation of
new standards and formulates and submits their comments and suggestions
to SIST (see Chart 16). Part of the blame in this context can also be ascribed to
poor information of the companies, which is made clear in Chart 14. Statistical
analysis shows statistically significant differences between the groups
(Kurskal-Wallis H Test, P=0.046, N=186), whereas the Mann-Whitney U Test through
loss of power does not identify the difference, as the results are not statistically char-
