AN ANALYSIS INTO THE IMPACT OF STANDARDS ON THE OPERATION OF SLOVENIAN COMPANIES
The interviews have shown that Slovenian companies are far from deciding
uniformly on purchasing new standards and participating in the standardization
process. At the decision-making level, the greatest difference appears in
the company operating as a subsidiary of a foreign owner. Although this
company is engaged in the process at the national and international level,
it rarely purchases standards by itself. The company is included in the
standards base of the parent company, and therefore, it only exceptionally
buys from SIST. The other companies are clients of SIST, evidently because
SIST offers its members a discount. Companies only decide on buying in foreign
branches when the standard sought is not available at SIST, which is confirmed
through the results of the questionnaire (see Chart 12). In such cases they
directly contact the international organizations for standardization issuing
the original standard sought.
